MORE ATTENTION NEEDED FOR MEDICAL EMERGENCIES-MEAL
23 May 2023 | 10:00

With the aim to save people’s lives, Medical Emergency Association of Lesotho has encouraged the country to
prioritise people's lives by putting more attention to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS).This was said by Vice Secretary, Mrs. Makanana Liphoto as the country observes the International Emergency Medical Service week.

Mrs. Liphoto said the country might have its own ambulances in hospitals, but the medical emergency services are still in a compromised state and there is a need for the country to recognize the importance and invest heavily in EMS.She
highlighted that at the moment they are still found in Maseru district with the issues of EMS and that does not mean people in other districts do not need emergency medical services and their vision is to expand throughout the country. Mrs. Liphoto said there is a need to intensify public awareness campaigns about the importance of having paramedics deployed in the entire country with the aim to save people’s lives.

As part of observing the event MEAL saw a need to donate blood with the aim to meet the growing demand at the blood bank.Meanwhile, the event is scheduled to reach other districts with the same objective of raising awareness and promoting public education about the importance of EMS in the country.
