The Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) contingent under the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM), together with the Tanzania Peoples Defence Force (TPDF)  are reported to have celebrated International Nurses Day by providing free medical services
to the residents of Nengade.

Based on a report from the Lesotho Defence Force Public Affairs Office, this comes after the two Defence Forces discussed
how they can extend a helping hand to the population of Nengade city and nearby villages with the aim of building good relations with them and their government. When addressing the residents, the LDF Contingent commander Commando Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Malefetsane Makhoahle reminded them of the SAMIM task which is to fight
terrorism in the province of Cabo Delgado.

He also assured the residents that the contingent will not only protect them with weapons only but will continue to offer them other services which will ensure their wellbeing. Nengade Health Service was also included in this exercise whereby about 153 residents were attended to. The medical services rendered included Primary Health Care and Malaria Screening and Treatment. The two forces also handed free medication to the Nengade Health Centre.

The Lesotho Defence Force Contingent has been placed in Mozambique since 2021 to fight insurgents in Nengade and surrounding districts. By far since this deployment, the Lesotho Defence Force has lost three soldiers.
