The Prime Minister’s Ministries and Departments, Governance, Foreign Relations and Information Cluster’s report has been adopted by the Members of Parliament Salaries (Amendment of Schedule) Regulations, 2023 and the Statutory Salaries (Amendment of Schedule ) Regulations, 2023 in the National Assembly on Tuesday. Chairperson of this Cluster, Mr. Rethabile Letlailana when proposing for the report to be adopted by the Members said they have scrutinised the regulations and found that they are in order as there was nothing wrong with them except that the only changes from the previous government was the 2.5 percent increment across the board.

He therefore appealed to the members to adopt the recommendations of the Cluster for the members to adopt them as they are. Mr. Letalialana was seconded by Members of the Cluster Mrs. ‘Maboiketlo Maliehe who stated that they also scrutinised the personal vehicles of the Prime Minister and his staff where they discovered that there was nothing unusual about them. She said in fact they realised that the Prime Minister’s staff has been reduced as compared to that of the previous Prime Minister. Mrs. Maliehe stated that the Prime Minister’s staff is based on his programme to assist him carry out some of
his projects he would like to implement.

Speaking on this issue, Leader of Basotho National Party (BNP) Mr. Machesetsa Mofomobe questioned the standpoint of the government saying, during the election campaigns, Prime Minister Mr Ntsokoane Matekane had promised to reduce government spending. However, he said the Government is now doing totally the opposite saying the Prime Minister himself resolved to use his own vehicles instead of those designated to him by the Government. He explained that the Prime Minister’spersonal vehicles are more expensive than those which he was supposed to use.
