Minister of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police Mr. Lebona Lephema has strongly urged Basotho to work cooperatively in order to protect what is theirs. This, he said when responding to challenges that were raised by participants during a two-day decentralisation workshop held in Leribe from Tuesday. Mr. Lephema said most equipment used for developments is destroyed because it is misused, saying it is expensive to repair it and this negatively affects the
economy of the country.

He also urged those responsible for managing the equipment to be dedicated when performing their duties for the love of the country. In an interview with the Agency, the Ministry’s Public Relations Manager Mrs. Lucy Borotho said the workshop, which brought together representatives from Local Community Councils across the country, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Public Works and Transport as well as that of Public Service, Labour and Employment was intended to analyse construction of roads, land allocation and planning of towns in local community councils.

She said the objective was also to analyse achievements and challenges that were faced during the above, saying some of the challenges that were raised include shortage of public servants who work jointly with members of the public, lack of resources such as equipment as well as required expertise.
