KHUKHUNE COMMUNITY TROUBLED BY CRIME
19 July 2023 | 15:14

Khukhune community is troubled by the increasing crime reports in their village and plead for security enhancement. In an interview with the Agency, one of the villagers Mrs. Mannoi Mapulutsoane said their freedom of movement is infringed by the perpetrators who steal in their homes all the time. She said recently there are criminal acts whereby people steal food and their belongings and no arrests.

She said the youth who are drug abusers are the ones who do crimes in the villages. She said when they walk at night they do not trust people coming from behind as they keep thinking they are thieves who will rob them off their belongings. Mrs Mapulutsoane indicated that there should be some Police or Soldiers patrolling the village so that the perpetrators could be scared off. She pleads with security sectors to consider visiting villages weekly.

Councilor for Likila BO2 Mr Masaete Ramafono has stamped on the growing crime rate in the villages as he explained that on one of the mountains near the village found bodies of people who were killed.  He further added that animal theft is alarming and they wake up every day to a case of stolen animals in the village. He said recently there have been reports of stolen cows from two villagers on two consecutive nights.

District Administrator Mr. Tsepa Chaba has mentioned before that stock theft is a challenge as he further mentioned that these thieves steal animals and sell them in South Africa auctions. He said to fight this challenge, Lesotho must organise more animal auctions so that people can be able to sell their animals in Lesotho rather than wait for auctions in SA.
