The District Disaster Manager Mr. Lebohang Moletsane has on Tuesday pleaded with farmers whom government will be buying grains from on Wednesday, to bring clean and appropriately packed ones, with pills which prevent weevil bugs in the bags. Mr. Moletsane further indicated that his office has ensured that messages have been disseminated effectively, through the support of District Administrator;s office, and noted that he hopes that farmers from various villages would joint hands when organizing transport for their grains instead of working in silos.  He concluded by highlighting that in the past years they were not given a limit on how bags Disaster Management Authority should buy from Basotho, but this year they will only buy 24 000 kilograms of peas and 12000 kilograms of Maize.

This follows an announcement by the Government of Lesotho dated July, 07 that it is willing to buy Basotho produced grains, which will later be handed over to them in a form of food for work programme as an initiative to assist vulnerable communities. Disaster Management Authority had earlier indicated that the 2022-2023 Lesotho Vulnerability Assessment and Analysis (LVAA) report has shown that about 521, 000 Basotho are poverty stricken.
