LESOTHO JOINS FAO COUNCIL
24 July 2023 | 11:13

Lesotho is now part of  Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) council, a saving-ram from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations issued by the embassy of Lesotho - Rome has shown. According to this official report, this comes after the 43 rd   session of FAO conference including the 173 council meeting held in Rome this week, where Lesotho was represented

by the Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition Mr. Thabo Mofosi and other Senior officers as well as the Ambassador of Lesotho – Rome, Chief Thesele ‘Maseribane. This milestone as indicated in the saving-ram is said to have come at a crucial time when Lesotho’s Head of State, King Letsie III is the African Union (AU) and FAO Ambassador of Nutrition.

Furthermore, it said this also comes during review of the National Strategic Development Plan   II extension, hence agriculture, tourism, technology and manufacturing have become priority areas. Therefore, the locals are urged to utilise efficiently support and opportunities to be rendered during the next few years of Lesotho reigning in the council. Meanwhile, the Agency has learnt that Minister Mofosi and his entourage are now back in the country.

Alleviating poverty and hunger remains Lesotho’s number one goal in line with Sustainable Development Goals thus the government through the Head of State in various communication platforms has called all to join efforts in making this a reality.
