Maseru, Aug.15—The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Abia constituency Mr. Thuso Makhalanyane said that his arrest on Monday night is in some way related to him being against the passing of the original Omnibus Bill, 2022.

Speaking in an interview with the Agency on Tuesday, Mr. Makhalanyane said that the government wants to pass the bill as amended making it not the original version as per the expectations of the nation on the matters related to the national reforms.

He mentioned that his arrest is associated with the government wanting to shut him on this matter adding that the original bill should pass as is.
Mr. Makhalanyane showed that he together with his body guards who were initially apprehended to charges of road traffic offences were later on dismissed unconditionally.

He however pleaded that the security agencies should not be tracked into political feuds as such acts also compromises the safety of the nation.
While giving clarity on this matter, the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) Public Relations officer Senior Superintendent Kabelo Halahala indicated that Mr Makhalanyane was called in to rectify and help the police with information relating to an incident associated with road traffic offences that took place on Saturday in which the suspects reported to be bodyguards to Mr. Makhalanyane.

He stated that the vehicle which was used did not have any signs of security vehicles which includes siren lights to mention a few.

He however indicated that the calling in for questioning of Mr. Makhalanyane has got nothing to do with what the social media platforms are speculating.

Meanwhile, reports made rounds on social platforms that MP Makhalanyane was arrested on Monday evening.
