Leribe,Aug. 16 (LENA) -- With the purpose of commemorating Women month, Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) Women Network, Pitseng is engaged in a series of events this month.

Speaking in an interview with the Agency on Wednesday, Sergeant 'Matumelo Maqokela said they are holding public gatherings, paying school visits, door to door campaigns and road blocks.

Sergeant Maqokela said during the above mentioned events the main purpose is to curb criminal activities around the Pitseng area.

Additionally, she said so far the public gatherings have been held at Bolahla whereby the villages of Ha Mohatonyane, Ha Makena and Ha Jorotane attended  public gatherings.

She mentioned that Gender Based Violence, Early Child Marriages and Community Policing issues are among the topics discussed during the gatherings.

Sergeant Maqokela highlighted that the most prominent issue is the abduction of children, which seems to be rising hence they appeal to women to look after the children.

Again, she said the young mothers who usually go for home made brew have the tendency of leaving children unattended leading to the abduction.

However, she said some women go away for work leaving children with relatives  but later they are not cared for as agreed due to different reasons.

Referring to schools, she indicated that so far they have visited Mahobong High School and Holy Trinity Primary school.

In response to how cases on Gender Based Violence are, she said during this period there are less cases compared to December holidays as people are at work.

"Even now most are busy with harvesting and there are no squabbles and cases reported," she stated.

This is in preparation of the main event to be held at the end of this month, at the place and date yet to be confirmed.
