Leribe, Aug.22 -- Motebang Government Hospital through Dental section will from August 28 to September 1 commemorate Oral Health Week under the theme,' protect your teeth and avoid tooth loss.'

This was revealed by Head of Dental Department Dr. Polo Leketa in an interview with the agency on Tuesday.

She said the event is aimed at promoting oral health especially to the targeted group of children aged 6 to 18 years old.

Dr. Leketa said they target all the places where they can get access to the above-mentioned group, whereby they educate them on oral health, citing schools, herd boys, orphanage homes and youth groups.

She elaborated that their main concern is to educate them on filling up their teeth, as this will help them avoid extraction.

"We offer filing on teeth which are not yet rotten and on those that are already rotten though they are not deeply affected," she stated.

However, she highlighted that in schools, they disseminate information in accordance with the theme, saying they give out forms for parents' concern while attending to the children even after that said week.

"Before then we carry out the examination on the tooth and choose those who should have their tooth filled while we also refer others to the hospital according to the assistance one needs," she stated.

She pointed out that during the examination they also give out appropriate tooth brushes to the children to use and teach them the correct way of brushing their teeth.

Dr. Leketa mentioned that they advise people to go check the state of their teeth after every six months.

The schedule for the commemoration week is yet to be finalized.

The commemoration is held annually in the last week of August.
