Children  District Child Protection Team (DCPT) Berea has organised a 10km march targeting different places of Sefikeng on Friday this week.According to DCPT Berea Secretariat Ms. Hape Ntili the march is set to run under a theme, Ms. Ntili said given the high rate of GBV and VAC cases, the district has turned to be dangerous place for everyone and they saw a need to stand in solidarity to end the harrowing attacks and brutal killings of women and children.

She said much as women and girls remain under a spotlight of being the victims, however abuse affect almost everyone, hence the importance of standing united as members of the community, civil society organisations and country leadership in uprooting all forms of abuse.  Ms Hape said every individual deserves the right to live freely and that is why they have organized a march in order to advocate for a GBV/VAC free country.

She highlighted that not only the victims of abuse are hit hard by its impacts, but it can affect different aspects of life which includes families, children in schools and even the neighbours, adding that when abuse continuously happens to a person, it can trigger the sense of revenge.

During the recently held march hosted by District Football Association (DIFA) Berea, District Commissioner of Police (DISPOL) Senior Superintendent (Snr Supt) Mapuleng Setsomi highlighted that since 2022 up now they have recorded 79 rapes, whereby 41 cases were taken to court and 13 of them were convicted, while 38 cases are still pending some investigations.
