Berea, Aug 29 -- Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in Berea district said preparations for the Local Government Elections scheduled for September 29 are at an advanced stage.

IEC District Electoral Assistant (DEA) Mr. Moeketsi Nkoe confirmed the development when briefing LENA over the progress made prior to the elections.

Mr. Nkoe said in every election, voters list is the most important issue, therefore they are confident that cleaning and verification of voters roll was well conducted.

He further said the recruitment and selection process of the temporary staff who are going to be deployed during the voting process has also been completed, but they are just waiting for IEC to approve the names of such temporary employees.

DEA added that they are yet to conduct training for key stakeholders and part of the IEC staff on the dates yet to be approved by IEC.

He stressed that such training will basically focus on equipping the trainees with skills regarding the advance voting and voting processes in general.

After gaining its independence in October 04, 1966, Lesotho held its local first government elections in 2005.
