Members of the community from Ha Ramokhele within Mafeteng Urban Counsil have expressed concern over streetlights that are not working.They said lights have not been working  for a long time and  the crime rate in that area has escalated especially with offenses such as theft and assault whereby criminals ran away.In an interview with Mrs. Mamokete Letlala said those lights were useful but for a short period. She said their businesses are being broken into during the night, they are being attacked and

assaulted on their way home as a result darkness and inability to identify the culprits.Mrs. Letlala called on the responsible ministry through Urban Council to take action in protecting the lives of members of the community in the area, saying those lights are important in controlling criminal offenses.  On the other hand the Mafeteng Urban Council Town Clerk Mrs. Ntlhafu Damane confirmed

that streetlights have not been working as a result of cable theft and low budget allocated to the council every financial year.

Mrs. Damane stated that they are unable to maintain all needs under Mafeteng Urban Council, saying they are operating with a low budget.

Sharing the same sentiments, Ythe Chairman of Mafeteng Urban Council Mr. Moferefere Nthoesana said Mafeteng Urban Council Community Councils have stretched their brains for the benefit of the community.  Mr. Nthoesana confirmed that the council is experiencing shortage of funds and they have to look for other ways to implement developments.

The Chairperson further stated that they have currently procured a waste management truck to control waste within the council.

He said they have constructed a community hall for the benefit of the Mafeteng community, however he said the financial problems are continuing. Mafeteng Urban Council is mandated to ensure implementation of developmental activities within the council.
