Mafeteng, Sept.07---As part of efforts to increase food security, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition will hold World Food Day at Sekameng within Kolo Resource Center on October 13.

In an interview with the LENA, District Extension Officer Mr. Polao Tlali said the activity is aimed at encouraging members of the community to engage in crop production, rearing of livestock and other activities to fight food insecurity and malnutrition while at the same time generating income.

He highlighted that nutrition clubs from seven District Resource Centers and individual farmers will display agricultural products through livestock and crop production, handicrafts, nutrition, hydroponics and methods of making compost manure to avoid usage of fertilizer.

Mr. Tlali indicated that the day will be commemorated under the theme: "Water is life, Water is Food. Leave No One Behind "The theme aims to highlight the critical role of water for life on earth and water as the foundation of our food.

The theme also seeks to raise global awareness about the importance of managing water wisely as rapid population growth, economic development, urbanization and climate change threaten water availability.

The World Food Day is aimed at raising awareness of global hunger and encouraging people to take action in food security for everyone around the world, especially those in remote communities who are most vulnerable.
