Maseru, Sept.19—The Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) has rubbished information making rounds on social media platforms on the arrest of suspects into the matter of firearms that were reported to have disappeared at the Robbery and Car Theft Squad (RCTS).

Speaking in an interview with the LENA on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer Senior Superintendent Kabelo Halahala said that investigations on this matter are still ongoing and so far no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made.

He stated that the disappearance of the firearms was discovered a few months ago when the unit was changing its management.

Senior Superintendent Halahala mentioned that the 23 firearms were kept at the unit as exhibits to be presented before the court on some cases.

Numerous cases have been reported of disappearing firearms at the Police units such as at the Mafeteng Police station and the Leribe Police stations.

Most of the firearms which seem to be disappearing are recovered to be engaging in criminal cases such as murder, stock theft and armed robbery.
