Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso commended Lesotho Girl Guides Association (LGGA) for the notable successes pertaining to completion of the otherwise ‘Girl Led Action Climate Change in Africa’.

The Queen, who is also Patron of LGGA said this in Maseru on Friday at an event where LGGA through its advocacy team of girls presented a report of this two year-year climate change project which ended in March this year.

In her speech, the Queen mentioned that this project had three pillars which are to increase awareness on climate change related issues, to support direct adaptation and mitigate action at community and national levels and to increase future capacity for women to enable them to occupy leadership roles on climate change responsible platforms. She noted that all these three pillars were successfully achieved.

The Queen added that the report from these girls has shown there has been an increase in girls’ knowledge, improvement in attitudes, implementation of projects at community level, positive behavioural change towards climate change and more advocacy engagements locally, regionally and internationally.

Meanwhile, LGGA Secretary General (SG), Ms. ‘Mabohlokoa Emile told the Agency on behalf of the girls that this project was piloted in Lesotho, Tanzania and Benin adding it has been supported financially by World Association Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

“Through this project, we have established the gender dimensional issues pertaining to climate change hence this project has been vital to us inclusive of other beneficiaries. Present at today’s event included LGGA friends and partners including UNICEF representatives. To date, LGGA is reported to have 97 years in guiding since its establishment in 1925.
