NUL HOLDS 48 TH CONVOCATION

At least 110 graduates were conferred certificates during the 48 th  graduation ceremony held at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) on Monday. The graduates were from the Faculty of Agriculture and were conferred degrees, Diploma and Certificates in Animal Science, Agricultural Economics and Extensions, Crop Sciences, Soil Science and Resource Conservation as well as General Agriculture. In addition, students who performed well in their studies were also awarded awards.

Speaking at the event, NUL Chancellor King Letsie III said September is a special time of the year for the NUL community, Parents and Guardians as they celebrate a successful completion of graduands studies.  He also commended the graduates for tenacity, resilience and patience they demonstrated during COVID-19 as their education was not easy, noting that resource mobilisation either human, financial or technical is one of the components in the strategic plan.

The King further said there is urgent need to undertake a review of all academic programmes and those that may be found unsustainable will have to be abandoned. He concluded by congratulating graduates, NUL management and Council for their hard work, sacrifice and dedication in providing quality education to graduates, urging the latter not to turn their backs on the university but remain engaged in its activities. On the other hand, NUL Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Olusola Fajana said the 48 th  convocation is

commemorated shortly after the inauguration of the 15 th  NUL Council, saying they remain grateful for the smooth transition characterised by the peaceful processes of election and appointment of its members accordinglyHe added that the 48 th  convocation also convenes at approximately 12 months of a newly elected government which they look forward to working hand in hand with to move the university forward.

He also said the university has achieved a number of things, such as forming partnership with the University of the Free State to improve in language and literature, improvement of services in information, communication and technology as it has received a boost as well as transforming the Library into an e-library amongst others.
