Maseru_When the world celebrates mental health day, the patient's situation at Mohlomi Hospital is said to be inhuman, this has been revealed by the Senior Nursing Officer Mrs. Mantoa Maholi Rampeta in an interview with the Agency on Wednesday.

Mrs. Rampeta told the Agency that the living conditions of patients at Mohlomi Hospital are frustrating especially those in Forensic.

She stated that under normal circumstances, the forensic ward takes about 35 patients, but now it has accommodated over 80 patients and the situation is out of hand looking at the kind of patients admitted in that ward.

Responding to why they do not release other patients, she said due to the nature of their condition, patients can only be released by the Psychiatrist and in the case of Lesotho, there is no such, hence they keep piling up.

Apart from that, Mrs. Rampeta indicated that even other wards' patients keep increasing, stating that male wards have over 30 patients, while female wards have over 25.

She said they are expecting the numbers to increase due to the prevailing situation of high rate of youth employment, adding that some have started taking charge of their condition by visiting the hospital.

Furthermore, she said the issue of unemployment has resulted in young people using drugs and alcohol as their stress reliever and later experiencing depression and other related health issues.

She concluded that it is during such events like Mental Health Day that they raise awareness on mental health issues.
