COURT ORDER PREVENTS COUNCILLOR'S SWEARING-IN
Court order prevents councillor's swearing-in

During yesterday swearing-in ceremony for the Botha-Bothe Urban Council, a court order was received, preventing the induction of one council member.

The court order, issued by the High Court of Leribe, specifically restrained Mrs. ‘Mats’epo Mohanoe from being sworn in, pending the resolution of a case filed by Mrs. Mpolokeng Matela.  The case pertains to Mrs. Matela’s complaint about the nomination of Mrs. Mohanoe, which took place on July 3, 2023.

Mrs. Matela is the applicant in this legal matter, and the respondents include the Democratic Congress (DC) Constituency No.5 Committee, Mrs. Mants’ebo Mohanoe, Independent Electoral Commission, Ministry of Police, Local Government and Home Affairs, and the Attorney General.

The second respondent’s proprietors ‘secretary, officials and anybody responsible are directed to serve the Applicant and dispatch to the Registrar of the court reports of voting outcome submitted to the National Executive Committee in relation to the expresses of the DC branch of Botha-Bothe No.5 constituency for contested nominations conducted on July 3 2023 and information incidental or connected to the oversight role of Botha-Bothe No.5 of the DC within 14 days of inception of order.
