In promotion of good menstrual management, Lesotho Planned Parenthood Association (LPPA) has today distributed sanitary towels and hygiene kits to 62 Patlong and Letsoha primary schools pupils. The gifts, according to LPPA Programs Director, Ms.Majane Morake forms part of their social responsibility meant to assist vulnerable girls. Speaking to the Agency, she said each girl is expected to spend two months with her packet, after which a year distribution will be done by schools. We believe provision of sanitary wear will help curb absenteeism from school by girls during menstruation and restore their dignity. She further said "it was worrying that girls would not go to school during their periods hence the establishment of the initiative, which focuses on the welfare of girls.

Letsoha Primary Principal, Mrs. Mamokoatsi Ratselane said most of her students come from poor families that cannot even afford necessities like sanitary pads every month. Others use pieces of cloth, old clothes, dirty rags or even fail to manage their menses. She thanked LPPA for stretching its helping hand to ensure that their children are helped. I am happy as this will ensure they are not discriminated against during their menstrual

Around June 2022, United Nations Children&s Fund (UNICEF) held the first ever national Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) stakeholders’ consultative forum aimed at discussing the status, bottlenecks and opportunities to accelerate MHH in Lesotho, as well as to develop strategic partnerships and synergies. However, children from poor families, especially in rural areas still have limited access to sanitary towels. Reports show that 20 percent of the population have no access to clean water, while 27 percent still use unimproved sanitation facilities.
