Lets’eng Diamonds, through its corporate social responsibility and investment programme, has awarded scholarships to 11 Basotho students in response to the critical need for skills and expertise in the diamond mining sector.

Scholarships are offered to students currently studying and those interested in pursuing tertiary qualifications related to the development of the country’s mineral resources.

Ms. Relebohile Lebeta, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources, congratulated the scholarship recipients during the occasion and thanked the company for its continuous support to the Basotho Nation.

On the other hand, Mr. Matooane Thinyane, Chief Executive Officer of Lets’eng Diamonds, stated that Lets’eng Diamonds is committed to providing scholarships to deserving Basotho in response to the critical skills needed in the diamond mining sector.

He clarified that every year, prospective students and future mining professionals from across the country are invited to apply for scholarships in areas of study determined by the scholarship committee.

He further said, after the completion of their studies, Lets’eng Diamonds mine offers a two-year internship to ensure that students are ready for the job market. He elaborated that the program is designed to equip students with necessary skills and experience and has now spent over M17.8 million since 2006.  He pointed out that the program aims to foster social and economic development that will sustain communities beyond the life of the mine.

One of the award recipients, Tlalane Mahase, thanked Lets’eng for granting them such an empowering opportunity.  She promised Lets’eng Diamonds and the government of Lesotho to dedicate herself to her schoolwork and make Basotho proud.
