The Prime Minister OF Lesotho, honorable Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane says there is a need for African Union (AU) member states to enhance collective action in addressing the multifaceted challenges of malnutrition and its repercussions on development through commitment of domestic resources.

These, he said during the AU Nutrition Champion Road table meeting on addressing malnutrition and catalysing Africa transformation through enhanced multi- sectoral investment, at the 37th African Union Summit held at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Prime Minister said this requires member states to lead the way by ensuring that the battle against malnutrition receives the attention, financial resources, and cross-sectoral integration policies it demands.

He further said it is time to strengthen close collaboration with government bodies, non-profit organizations, and the private sector to formulate comprehensive strategies and action plans that are sensitive to the context. He also highlighted that by proactively tackling malnutrition, states can profoundly influence the well-being and prospects of individuals and communities.

Moreover, the prime minister suggested that member states should establish a system to honour or award Champions for their remarkable contributions towards addressing malnutrition in all its forms, as well as Member States in track to achieve good progress.  He concluded by reaffirming their steadfast dedication to concerted efforts aimed at eradicating childhood malnutrition in all its manifestations.
