The Right Honourable Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane officiated the handover of three houses in Rothe, Maseru today. The three houses were rebuilt after being destroyed by thunderstorms in November 2023.

Giving his remarks, the Prime Minister commended the villagers for their resilience during the disaster and assured them of the Government's commitment to assisting Basotho people in times of crises.

Moreover, he expressed gratitude to the development partner World Vision Lesotho and the Lesotho Defence Force for their support during the reconstruction efforts. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of preparing for future storms and encouraged residents to plant trees to mitigate heavy rainfalls and thunderstorms.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Hon. Limpho Tau, appreciated the initiative taken by the LDF after being assigned by the Prime Minister to respond to the disaster. Furthermore, the Minister acknowledged the team from the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) for their contributions to the success of the assignment.

During the event, Rothe Member of Parliament Mr. Lebohang Phohleli expressed appreciation for the Prime Minister’s official visit and urged the community to take good care of the newly provided houses.

On behalf of the Lesotho Defence Force, Major Ramanka Mokaloba reiterated their responsibility to secure Basotho lives and pledged to respond to any disaster as part of their duty.

On the other hand, Mr. Kabelo Motlohi, representative of World Vision International-Lesotho, presented 8 beds and 39 blankets for the newly provided houses, stating that the organization aimed to bring hope and a better quality of life to families.

The initiative was completed in less than 2 months. The event was attended by Ministers, the Principal Chief of Rothe, Members of the National Assembly, the Government Secretary, the District Administrator for Maseru, Principal Secretaries, and other Government officials.
