26 February 2024 | 15:57

Chief Khombelwayo Mlotshwa of Hills view Maseru, on Friday said following current incidents of robbery in Hillsview and Europa communities, residents have taken a stand to stop crime.

Chief Mlotshwa stated that the community suggested a compulsory payment of M100.00 by every household which will be used to pay guards and maintain inventory of equipment to support the initiative.

He noted that since the measures have been put in place, there has been a huge change in the numbers of reported cases of robbery in stipulated communities.

Furthermore, he indicated that they work hand in hand with Lesotho Mounted Police Services (LMPS) and Ratjomose Barracks to provide them with their reliable response unit in times of emergency and this had impacted their mission positively.

Chief Mlotshwa applauded his community for taking charge for their safety and security, adding that in most cases, members of communities do not want to take responsibility in matters that concern them, especially when money is involved.

He recommended all communities to use this kind of measures to see if the issue of illegal activities within the villages cannot deteriorate.
