WORKERS CALL FOR REVIEW OF LABOUR CODE
WORKERS CALL FOR REVIEW OF LABOUR CODE
04 March 2024 | 11:36

The six workers unions in the country have strongly urged the government through the Ministry of Labour and Employment to review some sections in the new Labour Code. The call was made by amongst others Lentsoe La Sechaba, Construction ,Mining, Quarry and Allied Workers United Textile Employees and Lesotho Workers Association

CMQ Secretary General Mr. Robert Mokhahlane said they are unsatisfied with the section which provides that workers should work 195 hours per month and does not specify how many hours per day or week.He said this section permits employers to misuse workers as  the number of working hours is not specified.

He added that they are against the section which prohibits the employer to be arrested if he or she fails to pay workers; instead states that employer’s property should be attached, emphasising that they want these sections to be reviewed and remain the same as those in the previous Bill.

He therefore indicated that they are currently holding meetings with workers to inform and discuss these issues with them and are due to meet with the Parliament Committee to state their grievances.
