OMBUDSMAN ORDERED LDF TO COMPENSATE THE FAMILY OF THE DECEASED
Ombudsman ordered LDF to compensate the family of the deceased

A report from the office of the ombudsman in Lesotho, through its director, Advocate Tlotliso Polaki, ordered the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) to compensate the family of the late Lisebo Tang before the end of three months.

Lisebo Tang was shot and killed by two members of the Lesotho Defence Force who were guarding the home of the former commander of the LDF, Lieutenant General Tlali Kamoli, Ha Leqele, Maseru.

This incident took place in the year 2014, and the deceased was traveling with one Tshepo Jane when the car they were traveling in was shot with more than one hundred and twenty bullets.

Therefore, Advocate Polaki said his office has investigated this matter , and according to section 17 (1) of the ombudsman act number nine  of the year 1996 read together with section  7  (4) and (5), the Ombudsman decided that an injustice or infringement of fundamental right or freedom should be remedied.

The Report further says that after the investigations, Ombudsman office decided that those two members of LDF, have misused their power against the late Lisebo Tang and therefore the LDF has to compensate or raise the head of the late Lisebo Tang with the amount of three hundred thousand  maloti and that must happen within a period of three months.

In the same way, the LDF has also been ordered to compensate the family of late Mr. Molapo Molapo who was shot and killed in Peka, Leribe District by a member of the Lesotho army in December, in the year 2020, and the Ombudsman office ordered the LDF compensate or raise the head of the deceased Molapo Molapo with the amount of more than four hundred and twenty thousand maloti, and it should be paid within a period of three months.
