MOCHOBOROANE PROMISES WORKING NEW JOBS

In his capacity as Acting Prime Minister Mr. Selibe Mochoboroane has promised the workers that new jobs will be created in the textile industry soon.Addressing the workers Unions commemorating the Workers Day at Morija in Maseru on Wednesday, he said Prime Minister Mr. Ntsokoane Sam Matekane had sent a delegation to China looking for new investors and that the trip has been successful. <<<<<MONATE>>>

Speaking at the same event, Minister of Employment and Labour Mr. Mokhosi said the Social Security draft Bill is still going through necessary structures of the government and that it would be brought into the parliament to be enacted into an Act of parliament soon.He said once it has been enacted it would pave the way for better things to come for the textile workers. Mr. Mokhosi said it would address issues of maternity leave for the textile workers in order for pregnant women to be treated like public servants.

The Minister stated that the Occupational and Safety Act of 2024 allows workers to sit down with their employers to negotiate better working conditions and better pay.Mr. Mokhosi also stated that the government was fully aware of concerns of textile workers wbo are losing jobs due to shutting down of some factories in Maseru and Maputsoe.

He said the government was not folding its arms but was doing something about it.He also talked about the Labour Act of 2024 saying it is going to address some of the workers concerns. Mr. Mokhosi said the Government Gazette regulating the workers wages was ready a d that the lowest increase is five percent.Mr. Teboho Tolo speaking on behalf of Lesotho Federation of Trade Unions expressed concern about the delay in introducing the Social Security law saying it aims to address some of the workers concerns.
