Young farmer Kate Palmer is heading for South Africa on a farming mission to help a village community
The 27-year-old will be part of an 11-strong volunteer team spending two weeks in the Kingdom of Lesotho, helping villagers improve their farming activities.
Kate, from Buckfastleigh, is holding a quiz night to raise the cash to make the trip.
And she is also appealing for donations of shoes – to help youngsters in Lesotho go to school.
Kate, who has been a member of the Totnes Young Farmers for 10 years, is currently secretary of the group which last year raised £10,000 for the Rowcroft Hospice.
She explained that the National Young Farmers’ Federation runs a programme of scholarships involving volunteering and working abroad.
