GOVERNMENT NEGOTIATIONS WITH NUL PROGRESS
Government Negotiations with NUL Progress
26 July 2017 | 10:01

Negotiations are finally progressing between government and the National University of Lesotho NUL over students’ fees issue. This is according to NUL Information Officer, Ms. Mamosa Moteete, who said following a collapse of negotiations between the university and the previous government, the institution management decided to take it up with the current government which has pledged to address the matter positively.

She said the Ministry of Development Planning has finally made a verbal commitment to ensure the issue is dealt with in a manner which will benefit all parties concerned, saying government has also communicated with the University to let the fees structure to remain unchanged. Ms. Moteete explained that for these reasons, the NUL Council has ordered for a release of academic results and transcripts of completing students to enable them to enter the job market while the institution awaits the clearance of the fees short-fall by the Ministry.

NUL learners embarked on a month-long fees protest in April following an announcement by the National Manpower Development Secretariat that it could not pay a short-fall of about 18 Million Maloti out of which each learner had to top-up his or her balance to get the fee fully paid up.
