A borehole that is expected to benefit more than 2000 students and the community has been handed over to St. Boniface High School in Maputsoe, Leribe.

The borehole is a gift constructed under the China-Lesotho People-to People Friendship Action Fund after the Chinese business community learnt about shortage of water experienced at the school and surrounding villages.

These were the remarks of the Chinese Ambassador to Lesotho Dr. Sun Xianghua during the handing over ceremony, saying with the borehole, the sanitation and health conditions of children will be markedly improved.

Dr. Sun also thanked the Chinese for establishing the Fund to benefit Basotho in various ways that include bursaries for needy Basotho children, adding that through the Fund, 20 students of St. Boniface High School who are most needy will be assisted with bursaries and a cheque amounting to 20 000 Maloti was handed over to the school Principal to cater for the needs of the beneficiaries.

Speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Honourable Joang Molapo said government appreciates the gift of water which is a result of the existing relationship between Lesotho and China, and challenged the students to learn foreign languages such as Mandarin, in order to become future world citizens with the ability to work in any part of the world just like the Chinese are doing.

The Minister of Water Affairs Honourable Samonyane Ntsekele applauded the Chinese for the donation which will make a lot of difference as supply of water is insufficient in Maputsoe, which the Ministry is working hard to address.

The school Principal Mrs. Alina Mohapi thanked the Chinese Embassy and the business community for the borehole, saying the school will no longer have to close early because of water shortage experienced over the years.
