The Minister of Law, Constitutional Affairs and Human Rights Honourable Lebohang Hlaele has announced that Advocate Hlalefang Motinyane is the acting Director of Public Prosecutions DPP.

Addressing a press conference in Maseru, Honourable Hlaele explained that following the leave pending retirement of the DPP Advocate Leaba Thetsane KC, the Ministry realised that the office cannot be vacant and therefore recommended Advocate Motinyane as the acting DPP and the Public Service Commission has confirmed his appointment.

He added that Advocate Motinyane has been recommended based on his young age, energy, his commitment and dedication to work, as well as the need to showcase his capabilities as a lawyer.

The Minister explained that the Ministry has agreed with Advocate Thetsane that he shall be on leave from October 05, this year until July 27, 2018 and that government is currently working on his retirement package and benefits, while it is also considering who will occupy the DPP‘s office on a permanent basis.

He also revealed that the Ministry has withdrawn its mandate with foreign lawyers after realising that government spends a lot of money on their fees while a large number of local lawyers could handle cases they were dealing with, and the Ministry is currently considering which local Lawyers could be assigned to cases that were held by foreign lawyers.
