PRESS STATEMENT
Maseru (07/02/2018) – The Chairman of Letšeng Diamonds, Mr Clifford Elphick, has announced the appointment of Mr Kelebone Leisanyane as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Company. Mr Leisanyane, an experienced businessman, will join Letšeng on 12 February 2018.
He takes over from the Acting CEO, Mr Jeff Leaver, who will remain with Letšeng in an advisory and supportive capacity. Mr Elphick said that Jeff, who has 35 years’ experience in mining globally, particularly in the diamond industry, would continue to fill a valuable role at Letšeng. During this time, he will provide industry-specific support to Mr Leisanyane and in addition will continue to focus on the important function of transferring his skills and knowledge to the Letšeng management team in general.
Mr. Elphick said he was confident that Mr Leisanyane would contribute meaningfully to the further success of the Company and on behalf of the Board welcomed him to Letšeng.
Jeff Leaver expressed confidence in the Board's choice. "I'm very happy with the Board's decision and I'm confident Ntate Leisanyane will ensure that Letšeng continues to contribute meaningfully to all shareholders and stakeholders."
About Letšeng: Letšeng Diamonds is a mining company that operates Letšeng Diamond Mine. The mine is renowned for producing large high-quality white diamonds, which are among the largest in the world. These include the 910ct (fifth largest in the world) recovered in 2018, the 603ct Letšeng Promise recovered in 2006, the 550ct Letšeng Star recovered in 2011, the 493ct Letšeng Legacy recovered in 2007 and the 478ct Light of Letšeng recovered in 2008.
Gem Diamonds Limited acquired the mine in October 2006 and owns 70% of shares; the Government of Lesotho holds the remaining 30%.
