The Transformation Resource Centre (TRC) and Construction and Mine Workers Associations Union (CAMAU), noted with concern an incident which took place at Lihloahloeng community on the 08th February 2018, where armed police officers attacked villagers who had held  a peaceful gathering, to claim their socio-economic rights which were constantly violated by the Storm Mountain Diamond (SMD) at Kao.

The incident culminated with the death of Mr Terene Pitae, who was allegedly shot dead by police while two other men were critically injured.

Both TRC and CAMAU condemn these barbaric conduct by police in strongest terms.

The unfortunate incident comes after the community gathered against SMD’s failure to address their grievances and human rights violation caused by the mine.
