The Lesotho Electricity Company(LEC) has filed an application for a review of electricity service tariffs, to the Lesotho Electricity and Water Authority(LEWA),for the financial year 2018/2019.
LEWA says LEC applied for a nominal tariff increase of 23% on both energy across all customer categoris, which is estimated to one million Maluti revenue requirement request.
LEC explains that amongst other things costs of importing electricity in bulk from the Mozambique electricity company(EDM), and from the South African electricity company ESCOM are going to increase.
LEC indicates that the main cost component of revenue requirement includes the electricity bulk purchase, maintenance of property and a purchase of fuel for Semonkong power generating machinery.
LEWA invites the commends of the general public and stakeholders on this application before it makes a final decision.
