The Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Honorable Habofanoe Lehana, announced his ministry’s new policies on decentralization, national housing policy and the national policy on road construction in Lesotho in Maseru yesterday.

During the meeting Honorable Lehana pointed out that The Right Honorble Prime Minister Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane, is concerned about service delivery in Lesotho, and that the prime minister’s office together with his ministry have formulated a new decentralization policy under the theme; “Servive delivery through decentralization”.

He further announced a new National Housing Policy document with seven policies, formulated by his ministry and approved by the cabinet in parliament this year.

Honorable Lehana further explained that the United Nations(UN) carried out a research on housing policies in Lesotho, focusing mostly on the conditions of living houses and living conditions in such houses, and found that most citizens in Lesotho are living in sub-standard houses.

He also pointed out that his ministry is planning to engage labour intensive in the construction of roads, other than engaging machinery only.
