The Minister of Defence and National Security resigns from his position.

The Head of State, His Majesty King Letsie III has accepted the resignation of Honourable Sentje Lebona from his position as the Minister of Defence and National Security.

According to the report from the Prime Minister’s office, on Thursday the 13th September 2018, Honourable Lebona wrote to the Right Honorable the Prime Minister Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane, tendering his resignation from his position as the Minister of Defence and National Security.

The report indicates that on his letter, Honourable Lebona stated that this decision is based purely on his personal reasons, and in no way indicative of any dissatisfaction with his role within the Government of Lesotho.

It also shows that the Right Honorable the Prime Minister Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane, wished Honourable Lebona all the best in his future endeavours, adding that on behalf of the government and on his own behalf, he expresses his heartfelt gratitude for the services Honourable Lebona has rendered to the Government and the people of Lesotho as a whole, during his tenure as the minister.

According to the report, the Right Honourable the Prime Minister has appointed Honourable ‘Mampho Mokhele, the Minister of Police and Public Safety to act as a Minister of Defence and National Security, with effect from 13th September 2018 until the appointment of a substantive holder.
