The Area Chief of Bongalla within Metsi-Maholo Chieftainess Mathato Pasela has expressed concern over shortage and or no coverage of telecommunication services within her area. In an interview she said for a long time they used to have Vodacom cellular network which used solar panels due to lack of electricity.
She highlighted that since November 2021 the area has had a problem of communication after Vodacom removed the network tower following regular theft of solar panels in the area. Chieftainess Pasela said since then they are facing a problem of no communication be it social or emergencies especially criminal reports.
On the other hand, the Community Councillor in the area Mr. Matsa Hlelesoa confirmed the problem, saying the other time one of the missing solar panels was discovered at Ha Ramo within Ha Ramohapi which is located along Mohokare River.
He however said they believed that telecommunications service provider will be back with services since the equipment is still there and only batteries have been taken. Mr. Hlelesoa mentioned that they need to go search for network coverage when communicating which becomes expensive
