The Banks Association of Lesotho (BAL) has made the final request in Maseru to customers of different banks in Lesotho, who have not submitted their identification documents to their respective banks.

The chairman of BAL Mr Mpho Vumbukani who is also the Managing Director of Standard Lesotho Bank, said banks have been sending out communication messages to their customers since 2015, requesting them to update their banking personal and company documents in their respective banks.

He went on to say as part of the country's fight against money laundering and financial terrorism, all local banks are required by law to know their customers, and keep their customer's updated personal records.
He indicated that as BAL they have decided to yet again, remind their customers to update their accounts details until the 28th March 2018.

He said as of now they are at a point where if some customers would not have updated their accounts details by the set deadline, they will have no choice but to freeze their accounts.

At that event BAL also launched a new low income savings account called Bothebelele(Meaning "ease of access), which is meant to embrace financial inclusion, that is a persuit of making financial services accessible at affordable costs to individuals earning M3000 or less.
