Crime Prevention, Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Ex- Offenders Association (CRROA) will launch Sports and Cultural Activities at the event to be held at Central Prison next week Wednesday.

According to CRROA Executive Director Mr. Nkalimeng Mothobi, the objective is to revive and motivate inmates as part of their rehabilitation, adding that the intention is to identify talents of inmates and groom them so that they could showcase them when released from prison to ensure that they never re-engage in criminal activities.

He also clarified that inmates need to be revived mentally and physically so that they could be fully rehabilitated as they are still human beings who will eventually go back and live with the society.

He indicated that sports and cultural activities will take place at all correctional institutions country wide, saying the initiative commenced last year upon realisation that most inmates are youth who find themselves growing up in prison and need to be groomed in sports.

He highlighted that the activities will run until January next year and the Minister of Justice, Law and Parliamentary Affairs is expected to present a trophy to the correctional institution which will win the tournament.

He further urged Members of Parliament who are based in constituencies where there are correctional institutions to support the initiative as inmates also cast votes and elected them thus they must give back.

CRROA is a non-profit organisation established in 2010 by ex-prisoners with the aim to rehabilitate and support ex-inmates so that they never re-engage in criminal activities.
