Cops launch manhunt after Lesotho national shot dead in Welkom
12 January 2017 | 09:51

Police in Welkom have launched a manhunt for several suspects after the body of a Lesotho national was found with gunshot wounds.

Captain Stephen Thakeng said: “On the 4 January 2017 at about 15:15 several gun shots were heard at house number 18 Cloete Street Rheederspark, Welkom and on inspection of the owner of the house, the body of a Lesotho national was found with gun-shot wounds.”

The deceased could be between 30 to 35 years old.

Thakeng said witnesses told police they saw “four or five” men run into the bush after the shooting. He said a manhunt has already been launched, but warned that the suspects were armed and considered dangerous.

Residents should not confront the suspects on their own and should instead contact the police if they sight them, said Thakeng.
