Maseru, March 12 __ Khutlang Mochesane, the last accused out of the four that are charged with attempted murder of Former Editor of the Lesotho Times and Sunday Express newspapers, Lloyd Mutungamiri was on Tuesday granted bail by the High Court through Justice Molefi Makara.

Mochesane was the only one who was still in custody after his co-accused Rapele Mphaki and Maribe Nathane were granted bail in December 2025 while Nyatso Ts'oeunyane got his bail yesterday.

His bail conditions which are similar to those of his co-accused are that he pays M2,000.00 bail deposit and secures surety amounting to M10,000.00. He was ordered to attend remands and stand trial at all scheduled times. He was warned against interfering with state witnesses.

The petitioner was further ordered to report himself to the Maseru Central Charge Office on his remand days. He was directed to surrender his passport to the Clerk of the magistrate court.

The accused applied for bail following delays in prosecution of the case against them. They argued that there is uncertainty regarding continuation of the case due to suspension of the presiding magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate Peter Murenzi.

The magistrate was suspended by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) following allegations of misconduct. The JSC directed that the files which were before him be locked away, as a result, cases such as this one, which were before him have not been proceeding.

The accused are charged with contravention of section 22 (1) read with 109 of Penal Code Act No.6 of 2010. It is alleged that on July 09 2016 at or near Ha Thamae in Maseru, acting in concert or common purpose, they shot Mutungamiri and inflicted serious injuries on him.
