Government offers counselling, burial assistance to grieving family

The Minister of Home Affairs and Police honorable Vuyiswa Tsheka has assured that the government will provide burial assistance and counselling for the family of the 11 year-old child who was allegedly raped and dumped in Mohale dam.

This, she said in the National Assembly on Monday, indicating that the suspect was arrested and is in Police custody.

Tsheka said they are not expecting the suspect to be granted bail without consultation of the victim’s family or Police, she said this, citing the Criminal Procedure Act.

The Speaker of the National Assembly Mr. Tlohang Sekhamane commended the Minister for addressing the matter immediately after the House was notified.  He also added that the fact that she has delivered days after her appointment, is a good sign.

Moreover, Thaba-Putsoa Member of Parliament Mr. Lebohang Monaheng, who informed the House about this incident last week Friday also applauded the Minister for ensuring that the deceased body was retrieved from the dam and the suspect was arrested.

On the other hand, Basotho Action Party (BAP) Leader Prof. Nqosa Mahao said it is high time the Parliament enacts the Bail Bill which was drafted in 2021 for the protection of Basotho.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that the incident took place on May 03 and the body was retrieved on May 10 while the suspect was arrested on May 05.
