Chairperson of the Road Transport Board has announced the commencement of issuance of D-permits beginning from Tuesday.

During a press conference, Mr. Mathabeng Lechalaba said the government gazette has been released to allow the issuance of the permits, and public consultations will be conducted in Butha-Buthe on December 16, Maseru will be on December 18 while Mohale’s Hoek will be on December 20.

Lechalaba further said all taxi operators can apply for permits in the three regions of the country including those that operate as school buses. He indicated that for renewals, motorists will be provided with guidance at their respective offices in the regions.

The issuance of permits was halted earlier this year due to among other things, the increasing number of 4+1 taxis in towns such as Maseru and Maputsoe.

Traffic Commissioner, Mr. Khothatso Ts’ooana commented that there is congestion in most towns and some of the taxi operators do not have relevant documents. He emphasised that there is a need for them to have proper paperwork for smooth operations.
