An impassable road connecting Ha Liphapang and Mat'selabeli is
currently posing a serious safety risk to motorists following a landslide
that occurred at Mat'selabeli on Monday night. The landslide left fallen
rocks on the road, making it dangerously narrow.
In an interview with the Agency, the Community Councillor for
Mat'selabeli Electoral Division in Tosing Community Council, Ms.
Limakatso Namole, said driving on the affected exposes vehicles and
passengers to accidents.
Ms. Namole said the road serves residents from six villages in the
Tsatane area. She added that poor condition of the road to Tsatane has
long been a concern for the community, as it negatively impacts access
to essential services, including agricultural and health services,
especially during heavy rains.
In a separate interview, a driver from the Tsatane area, Mr. Mxoleleni
Mngese, stated that driving along the Mount Moorosi to Tsatane route
during heavy rains is hazardous. He said drivers operating along the
route have agreed to suspend public transport services when it rains for
public safety, as the road is badly damaged and lacks bridges.
He appealed to the government to consider reconstructing the road
from Tongue-block to Tsatane in Mount Moorosi constituency, stating
that the road serves schools, residents from various villages, and the
Tsatane Health Clinic.
The distance between Tongue-block and Tsatane is 42km. Tsatane is
well known as a tourism attraction, home to the largest Bushman
paintings in Southern Africa.
