The Lesotho Council of Non-Government Organisations (LCN), has organized a two days training workshop today and tomorrow at Tribute Guest House in Maseru, to train Civil Society on Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

The overall objective of this activity is to foster accountability of public institutions, and leaders to citizens in line with the Constitution of Lesotho, ratified human rights conventions and guidelines as signed by the Kingdom of Lesotho.

According to the report, by signing these conventions and guidelines, Lesotho empowered Civil Society to create the demand and supply of the rule of law, specifically towards fighting government impunity and towards building a culture of democratic governance, based on the values of transparency, accountability and responsiveness of state institutions in the country.

LCN says UDHR as the landmark convention on human rights, was ratified and signed by the state, and its contents exported through the Constitution either as principle of state or justifiable human rights that can be claimed.

LCN further reports that it is implementing this activity, through a grant funded by the Delegation of European Union (EU) to the Kingdom of Lesotho, under the title called “Civil Society Engagement Towards Fostering Rule of Law and Accountability in Lesotho”.
