LEFA IN DILEMMA FOR WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS
LEFA IN DILEMMA FOR WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS

Maseru, Nov 01 –The Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) finds itself in a dilemma ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers which kicks off in mid-November and Likuena is scheduled to fly to West Africa to face Nigeria’s Super Eagles on November 16.

Five days later Likuena is also scheduled to host another West African nation Benin in neighbouring South Africa at the venue yet to be decided upon on November 21.

LeFA Secretary General Mr. Mokhosi Mohapi told the Agency on Wednesday that the dilemma centred on availability of Orlando stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg which the Association had booked well ahead of time.

However, he said FIFA released the 2026 FIFA World Cup fixture late and due to broadcasting times, the dates had to be rescheduled but are now clashing with the EFF manifesto launch to be staged at the same venue on November 16.

He said LeFA in a desperate move has approached Benin with a few to either bring the fixture forward or later in order to find a suitable date for all the parties.

However, he said Benin is not bound to agree due to financial implications that could be involved if the fixture is rescheduled and while still waiting for the Benin response, time is running out.

Mr. Mohapi hinted that due to Free State stadiums unavailable for not meeting the FIFA standards, Likuena could be seen hosting the Benin encounter as far as Durban.

Likuena is in group C alongside Nigeria, Benin, South Africa, Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
