LENEPHWA URGES MEN TO SCREEN FOR BREAST CANCER
LENEPHWA urges men to screen for breast cancer

The Lesotho Network of People Living with HIV and AIDS (LENEPWHA) has emphasised the need to raise awareness about breast cancer in men, a condition often overlooked due to its rarity.

Although male breast cancer is not as common as it is in women, LENEPWHA is calling on men to prioritise screening for early detection and treatment. The organisation highlights that the symptoms of breast cancer in men are similar to those experienced by women.

LENEPWHA said the symptoms include the presence of a lump or swelling in the breast, redness or flaky skin, irritation or dimpling of the breast skin, nipple discharge, a pulling in of the nipple, or pain around the nipple area. It also indicated that several factors contribute to the development of breast cancer in men. Among these are increasing age, excessive alcohol consumption, being overweight, and a lack of regular physical activity.

LENEPWHA is urging men to become more proactive about their health by seeking screening and medical advice if any symptoms arise. Early detection can significantly improve the chances of successful treatment.

The call is part of broader efforts to reduce stigma and raise awareness around male breast cancer.
