MASERU — The Lesotho Meteorological Services has warned of possible snowfall in some of the country's highlands from Tuesday, until Wednesday night, while extremely cold conditions are expected across the country on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the weather forecast, Tuesday will be partly cloudy and cold, with very cold conditions expected in some highland areas.

There is a 40 percent chance of scattered rain and snowfall over some high-lying areas, while winds are expected to be light to moderate from the south, becoming strong at times.

The forecast indicates that Wednesday will be mostly cloudy and very cold across the country, with a 40 percent chance of scattered rain and snowfall over the highlands. Light to moderate south-westerly winds are expected.

Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) has urged the public to take precautionary measures against the severe weather. Livestock owners have been advised to provide adequate shelter and feed for their animals, while crop farmers are encouraged to protect crops from frost and snowfall.

Motorists have also been warned to exercise caution, particularly when travelling through mountain passes where snowfall may reduce visibility and make roads slippery.

The authority further advised the public to keep warm, use heating devices safely to avoid fire outbreaks and carbon monoxide poisoning, and continue monitoring weather updates as conditions may change.

Today's expected maximum temperatures range from 17°C in Leribe and Berea to 6°C in Oxbow. Mafeteng is expected to reach 14°C, while Maseru is forecast to record a maximum of 16°C.
