A 29-year-old man from Ha-Telu-khunoana in the Berea district appeared in the Berea Magistrate's Court on the 23rd of last month after stabbing a woman.

According to Lesotho Mounted Police Service report, Police Constable Makotoko Lerotholi of the investigation department, they received a report that the community of Ha-Telu-khunoana apprehended the man, Thabiso Motlojoa, in the morning of the 21st of last month. He further stated that upon arriving at the scene, they found that he was being held for stabbing a 63-year-old woman with a knife.

Police Constable Lerotholi said that the victim lived with her child and had not locked the house, with the hope that when the child arrived, he would be able to enter the house. However, in the morning of that day, the victim saw the lights go out, and to her surprise, she heard someone already in her blankets groping her. The person then stabbed her with a knife after struggling to fulfil his wishes on the victim and ran away.

He further stated that the knife remained in the victim, as she screamed for help, that was when the community rushed out, apprehended the accused, and found the knife, which matched with the one used to stab the victim. He said that the police arrested the accused who was taken to court, he was granted bail of one thousand Maloti, and a surety of his belongings worth M7, 000 which he failed to pay.

Meanwhile, the accused is awaiting trial in custody and will reappear in court on the 23rd of May this year. Police Constable Lerotholi appealed to men who commit such acts to refrain from them.
