All the candidates who sat for the Junior Certificate JC examinations at ‘Mantoetse Secondary School failed to meet the examination requirements in 2016.

‘Mantoetse Secondary School registered 15 candidates for the examinations, which was written by only 14 who all failed.

The Senior Education Officer Ms. Neo Monese said the school has not performed well over the past three years, saying the main challenge is that there are no grants in that school, and as a result only one teacher has been permanently employed while others are paid by the school.
According to Ms. Monese in some instances the teachers do not get salaries and also claim that they did not have books in order to complete the syllabus on time, adding that the students have been affected by these issues.

However, the School Principal Mr. Motsamai Letjoko said that the results for Science are still pending, and they will know the final results when the Examination Council of Lesotho is through with ongoing research.

In 2016, a total of 21, 626 candidates registered for JC examinations, but only 21,314 sat for the examinations, and the overall performance by districts indicates that Butha-Buthe achieved first position, Leribe second while Mafeteng achieved third position.
